Sir John Logan Campbell was born in Scotland in 1817 and arrived in Auckland in 1840. He established the merchants Campbell & Brown and, as Auckland grew, he purchased land in the town and expanded the business. He was a prominent citizen and donated various areas of land to the city to be used as public parks.
The cards recorded all relate to meetings to organise the construction of a statue. The statue was unveiled on 24 May 1906 in Cromwell Park, Auckland.
