Otaraia Road Board

With little road building having taken place during the early years of the colony a series of road boards were established across the country during the latter part of the 19th century with the aim of collecting rates to aid with the creation of new roads. In 1882 the Roads Board Act divided the country into 319 different Road Boards, this was reduced to 209 in 1907 and 59 in 1922.
